Joined Continental Army at the age of 17, was with Washington at Valley Forge, and served throughout the entire war. Promoted to Lt for services. Br about 1759. Children: Timothy, Thomas. D 1825 in Summer, about 92 yrs old. Bur in old burial ground, 1-2 mile east of village of Montra, Jackson Twp, on north side of the road. 3rd unmarked grave fr the first tombstone, at the south end of the first row of graves on the east end of graveyard. Had a military funeral conducted by Capt John C. Elliot and Lt Japthy M Davis of the Mil with a full Company of Mil. For services in war the Government gave him a tract of land in Jackson Twp, Shelby Co. Located in Shelby about 1836, moving fr Pa. Was of Welch Quaker descent. The action of the water washed some of the bodies out. Friends and relatives removed the body of Whittier to Cem at Old Cambridge Church graveyard about 1894, under auspices of Cambridge G. A. R. Post 343, near center of Cem. Came to this country fr Germany, and settled at Baltimore when it was only a village. Lived later in Va and Pa. Coming fr Pa to Guernsey Co, O or that part of it which was a military reservation for Revolutionary soldiers. (Jackson Twp) shortly after the war of 1812. A story that has been handed down through some of the families residing in this rural community concerning this old Revolutionary soldier is as follows: "The year before his death, when 123 years old, during wheat harvest he cut with a sickle and put up unaided, twelve dozen sheaves of wheat a feat rarely equalled by many men in the prime of life.
