Also Sgt, (p 473), in Capt John Sebring's Company, and in Capt Ten Eyck's Company, Sgt also. Br Somerset Co, NJ, first ancestor, Coert Alberts, in Netherlands ancestors, br 1600; d 1084. Son was Steven Coerts Van Voorhees, to LI Nov 29, 1660. Was magistrate in 1664-67. First wife unknown. 2nd wife Willempia Senbering. Children: Abraham Jr, Minah, Garrett, John, Jacob, two daus who mar Thos Higgins and John Rynerson. All the sons-in-law Revolutionary soldiers. Bur on farm 1812. Grave lost. Town of Lockland now covers site of farm. Farm was Sec 33. Symmes Twp, bought in Spring of 1794. Tax list bears his name in 1809 in Springfield Twp. The most outstanding record of family is that of Daniel Voorhees who served as US Senator fr Indiana during several terms. With his sons and sons-in-law built a double cabin which served as a block-house, as Indians were still troublesome. Was founder of town called Voorheestown 1798, changed to Reading in 1804.
