Was a Capt in Va Mil 10th Brig 3rd Div. Br Mch 11, 1761 in Morristown, N. J. but when a yr old moved with his parents to Hampshire Co, Va. Mar 2nd time to Lydia Oiler Russell. Oct 1824. (Br Morrow Co, now Greenbrier Co, Va, Feb 8, 1798). Children: Elizabeth, Henry and several others. D June 28, 1861, Wayne Twp, Montgomery Co, O. Bur Fairfield Cem near Fairfield Air in. Depot on the line of Greene and Montgomery Cos. Lot No 154. MI: "John Cuppy, soldier of the Revolutionary Continental Army. Br Mch 11, 1761, died June 28, 1861, aged 100 yrs, 3 mos, 17 days." It is a tall granite shaft, and has a powder horn and flint lock musket chiseled on same. There are other inscriptions on the other sides of monument. Tn 1788 he removed to Ohio Co, Va, settling on the Ohio River near New Cumberland where he was a farmer in Va until 1821, when he went to live with his oldest daughter in Ind. In 1823 he settled in Wayne Twp, Mont- Pomery Co, where he lived until his death. Br Jan 15, 1762 in Litchfield, Conn. Done service in the, Revolution. Emigrated to Kentucky at the age of 19 years, employed as a spy to guard the infant settlement. Captured by the Indians, served in the war of ]8r2 as a Capt. Embraced religion at an early age and died in the Christian faith May 31, 1849." GM Rev Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912. During the War 1812, he served in two expeditions to the Northwest. He came to Ohio soon after Wayne's Treaty and settled below Chillicothe. He was born in France, came to America an officer in the French fleet, was the founder of this town and endeared to all his acquaintances. DUSENBERRY, WILLIAM, (Perry Co.)
Enl in Apr 1776, in Continental Army, when only 19 yrs of age, nearly 3 mos before the Declaration of Independence was signed, and served as Quartermaster, with rank of Sgt under Col Joseph Beavers, during the War. Engaged in the battles, of Amboy, Farm Road, Second River, Short Hills, Millstone, White Mills, and a number of others, his Regt frequently being under the direct command of Gen George Washington. Br Apr 6, 1757, near Bethlehem, Sussex Co., N. J. Mar Catherine Compton, at Bethlehem, N. J. Children: Henry, John, Benjamin, Mary, Rebecca, Catharine and Abigail. In 1800 he brought his family to Ohio and located where the Village of Sego now is, and where he lived until his death. D Mch 23, 1846, aged 89 yrs, on his old home farm, at Sego. Bur on summit of hill, about 7 hundred yards south of the Zanesville and Maysville pike, midway between Somerset and Fultonham. Around this grave, in the old family burying ground near the center of the thousand acre farm originally granted to him on account of his services in the war of the Amer Rev, are grouped the graves of other members of his family, including his wife, Catherine Compton Dusenberry. GM by grave stones which are perfectly legible. Traditionally known as the first settler in Madison Twp. Was the first man buried in the honors of war in this Twp.
